Description

The tokkuri is a traditional carafe designed for serving sake. Its iconic shape, with a narrow neck, helps to preserve the temperature and delicate aromas of the drink, whether it is enjoyed chilled or heated in a bain-marie ( Atsukan ).

This piece is made using the ancient Yakishime technique. Unlike traditional ceramics, it is not glazed. Fired at very high temperatures for several days, the clay vitrifies naturally, creating a unique, organic texture.

  • The "Wabi-Sabi": Each piece is unique, displaying color variations born from fire and ashes.
  • Taste enhancement: The natural porosity of Yakishime is renowned for softening the taste of sake, making each sip rounder and more harmonious.

Although designed for sake, this Tokkuri is perfectly suited to the modern lifestyle:

  • Tableware: For serving water, infused oils or wine.
  • Decoration: Used as a minimalist vase ( Ichirin-zashi ) to enhance a single flower.
  • Tactility: Its earthy texture offers a unique sensory experience with each touch.

A flow of light blue natural glass (Bidoro) runs through the body of the piece, giving it a rare luminous expression for Tamba. It will become increasingly pleasant to hold.

■Note regarding parts baked at high temperature
This product was fired in a pit kiln at a temperature exceeding 1300°C. In a pit kiln, the falling ashes melt and take on a pearly appearance, while traces of charring and reddish highlights appear on the surface of the pieces. These color variations are what give wood firing in a pit kiln its unique charm.
Because this item is made from raw, unsifted clay, the clay particles are not uniform in size and contain many small pebbles, which is why water leakage often occurs. Therefore, after being treated to prevent leakage, flower vases are filled with water for about a week after firing, and tea bowls, sake cups, and sake bottles are filled with water for a day and a night to check for leaks. However, it is possible that water leakage may reappear during use. If the leakage persists, please apply instant glue to the exact spot where the leak is located.
