Makimasa Imai
Makimasa Imai is a renowned ceramicist, son of Masayuki Imai, himself a celebrated ceramicist and recipient of the Order of Culture medal. Based in Kyoto, he insists on firing his pieces in a chimney kiln located in Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture, 400 km from Kyoto, where his father had established his workshop.
The natural power of the wood flames allows the clay's properties to be brought out to their fullest potential and gives his works a deep finish.
